  • Amniocentesis test perfermed at 14-20 weeks to diagnose birth defects like down syndrome, cystic fibrosis,spina bifida.
  • Biophysical profile (BPP) done at third trimester to check the health of the baby. it involves ultrasound and nonstress test.
  • chrionic villlus (CVS) sampling done at 10-13 weeks to diagnose any chromosomal disorders,geneic disorders.

prenatal care

  4- 28 weeks of conception. one visit a month .In the first prenatal visits the health provider will collect the health history, medication used, medical members family history, determine the risk factors based on age., health and personal as well as family history. Physical examination, blood test  will be done . Determination of due date.

28-36 weeks . every 2 weeks. blood pressure monitoring, weight gain, fundal height, urinalysis fetal heart rate , blood test and ultrasound, triple scan test, amniocentesis. and checking for complications

36 to 40 weeks: 1 prenatal visit every week. vaginal examination to check baby position, repeat routine health checks, test for group B strep

initial physical assesment includes:

  • measurement of weight, height, blood pressure and vital signs
  • complete head to toe examination
  • examination breast
  • examination of thyroid gland
  • examination of lymphnode
  • chest examination for scar abnormality of spine, breathing difficulty
  • examination of cardiovascular system
  • urine test
  • pregnancy test
