Some of the main challenges posed by the growing use of medical technology in the United States are protecting medical information entrusted to medical facilities from hackers while at the same time making this same information available to clinicians. Consider all the testing done that could be avoided if prior studies were available.

American cultural beliefs and values influenced the use of medical technology by making unrestrained pursuit of high-tech procedures. Moreover, more procedures are performed in the United than most other industrialized countries (Ibid, 115). Eventually, in my opinion medical rationing will be a necessity.

Answer: Once a medical organization’s system has been compromised, often because an employee clicked a link in a sketchy email, all the patient files are held hostage until ransom is paid. Computer viruses can arrive via email, text messages, and websites that are set up just for the purpose of attacking naive and unsophisticated end users.

A healthcare organization must have this list of systems and thus an understanding of how it would manage ransomware on any system,” he added. “If an organization cannot afford for a particular system to be down at all, it has to build for that. If a system can be down for an hour and the organization can reimage it and restore a backup in an hour, that’s different. This kind of planning for ransomware is key, especially because we see that the bad guys are very, very interested in hitting hospitals because hospitals have been paying the ransoms.

Some of the methods to prevent hacking are :

  • Ensure Staff is Properly Trained on Healthcare Cyber Security Protocols
  • Don’t Put Off Software Updates
  • Control Access to Protected Patient Data
  • Don’t Use the Same Password for Everything
