We ended the lipids and membranes section with neuronal signaling because it encompasses so many important concepts for lipid biology. Use neuronal signaling as an example to illustrate at least 3 important concepts of lipids and membranes. please explain reasoning

Expert Solution

Lipid rafts ( also known as lipid microdomains) are discrete lipid domains present in external leaflet of plasma membrane.Rafts are enriched in glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored protiens, as well as protiens involved in neuronal signal transduction and intracellular trafficking.

In neurons, lipid rafts act as platform for neuronal signalling transduction initiated by several class of neurotrophic factors including neurotrophins.Evidences also indicate that such rafts are important for neuronal cell adhesion , axon guidance and synaptic transmission.

Lipids can act as neuronal signalling factors in various ways like:

  • Binding of a ligand to a cell surface receptor is an initiating event in cellular signalling.
  • Fatty acid acylation is a common post -translational modification of signal receptors
  • Synapsis which transmit stimuli signals ,has lipid compositions distinct from the rest of the cell.

Carboxylic Acids. Lipids are a macromolecule we need to survive and many of them happen to contain carboxylic acids. Choose one lipid - could be a particular steroid, fatty acid, or tri-glyceride and discuss its structure and potential reactivity. please cite on source using APA citation format.

We learned in this section of our study that Monopoly is not widespread because barriers to entry are seldom completely successful. We also learned that they are unsustainable over a long period of time, because of emerging new technologies. Look at what you can investigate and analyze if such evidence is correct or not. Use your analyses and argue for and against antitrust laws. Do we need antitrust laws or companies and market forces will bring them along and correct...

It is important to note that we are assuming that so far there has been NO governmental action regarding the virus. So, there has been no quarantining, there have been no “Stay-at-Home” orders, there have been no orders closing businesses, and, generally, there have been no decisions by a governmental entity regarding the virus.Draw a graph to explain your answer. First, explain (in words) what an “efficient” outcome is in the present context. Then, present an economic argument, using a...

QUESTION 13 SECTION 1 Because deflation is so costly, some have argued that setting an inflation target at 2 percent is too low and it should be set higher, to 3 percent, especially in the economic environment of 2007–2010. Consider the impact of such an increase in the inflation target using the AD/AS framework in the short and long run. Begin your analysis in the long-run equilibrium. How would you change your answer if expectations are rational and the FED...

We are managing the inventory and one of the items is very important for us, so we have to calculate the best quantity to order.
