Tonicity________________

Run at _______mL/hr. Drop factor is 15 gtt/mL. IV to run at _____gtt/min

Solutions

Expert Solution

ANSWER.

* Calculation of tonicity and gtt/min.

Tonicity is the concentration of solutes in a solution.

    Tonicity of 500 ml of 10% dextrose = 500 * 10/100 , (10% = 10/100)

                                                            = 5000/100

                                                            = 50 gm.

* Rate(gtt/min).

        Formula

               gtt/min = Volume(ml)/Time(min) * Droip factor(gtt/ml).

Here

        Volume(ml) = 500 ml.

         Time(min) = 300 min (5hr).

         Drop factor = 15 gtt/min.

As per above formula

           gtt/min = 500/300 * 15

                       = 1.66 * 15

                       = 24.9

                       = 25 gtt/min.
