Explain HIPPCO. How HIPPCO lead to species extinction?
Explain
A) Explain HIPPCO
H stands for Habitat Destruction
I stands for Invasive Species
P stands for Population Dynamics and Resources
P stands for Pollution/Pesticides
C stands for Climate Change
O stands for Overexploitation (Poaching)
B) How HIPPCO lead to species extinction
There are several causes lead to species extinction. HIPPCO
describes these causes.
1) Habitat loss and fragmentation are the greatest threat to a
species. Habitat destruction occurs by natural or anthropogenic.
Anthropogenic means humans disturb the habitats by: cutting down
trees, polluting the air and water.. When people pollute
environment, they mess up the habitat for animals and plants.
2) Invasive species, when species overload and take things over,
for eexample predator takes over and hunts other species to
extinction is it being a
invasive species, so lead to species extinction.
3) First P means pollution. Pollution such as waste water, trash,
and fossil fuels from cars. These when burned into the air and make
the atmosphere unfit for living so lead to species
extinction.
4) Second P called Population. Today's population lead to species
extinction, as more population, more competition.
5) C means climate change that happen all
over the world. So climate changes in some places, make animals to
leave their habitat and other animals come to that place.
6) O means over harvesting, referred to as picking to many crops at
once. Animals need the crops that we need as they may not have
anything to eat.
