The nervous system, and endocrine system both release the chemical mediators that produce response in the target cells by binding to their specific receptors.
Nervous system is the media of communication between the external and internal environment, as well as within the internal environment of the body by bridging the signals between the peripheral nervous system and the central nervous system.
Endocrine system organises various body functions by its hormonal secretions. Hormone is a chemical messenger secreted from an “endocrine gland” (ductless glands) which is transported to a distant site from its origin, where it produces its action (paracrine action). Similar to the nervous system, endocrine system also serve as a media of communication.
The nervous system sends signals at a faster rate via neurotransmission and action potentials, which vanish as quickly as possible. The endocrine system produces hormones from specific endocrine glands to act on specific target cells to produce signal transduction mechanism via receptor activity and takes longer time to produce cellular activity for example, steroid hormones.
