How can you be an effective nurse when caring for someone whose values differ significantly from yours? What about yourself or the patient might make it difficult to be caring and compassionate? Discuss ways to overcome these barriers and obstacles.
Effective nurse should be a person who should be well organised generally care for group of patients,detail oriented like they should be on continous monitoring of patients and measure the medications precisely.Nurses also should have good communication skills ,who can communicated both verbally and in written notes with the patients,their families and also with their co-staff.Most of the patients come from different backgrounds with different cultures having different practices .To deal with such kind of patients will be difficult task but not impossible as it is a part of training need in nursing education.Such kind of situations are called as trancultural nursing or cultural competent nursing where the nurses have to deal and cope up with different kinds of patients whose values will differ from those individuals.
It has become key component in healthcare sectors where it is included even as clauses in policies regarding their department which should be placed under patient rights.The nurses has to respect ,recognize and appreciate cultural differences in healthcare values and beliefs and customs.Necessary knowledge and skills are required in this category to value the patient beliefs.So even it is tough for a nurse to give importance to their beliefs in emergency situations,it is mandatory and an important aspect in healthcare.Lot of patience and hardwork is required for this situations to be resolved.The physical and emotional outcomes that occur by the patients should be given a trust worthy relation between the nurse and the patient.
There are situations where the family support will be lacking in patients case.In such scanarios the frequency of acceptance by the family will make the patient health deteriotate and become worse.The nurses should not lose hope and try to convince either the patient or the family members and explain the situation of the consequences that might happen.
