In order to achieve effective behavioral interventions, most physicians use clinical practice guidelines that are based on the 5 A's model. Briefly describe this model, and provide an example.

Solutions

Expert Solution

After evaluating and meta analyzing hundreds of controlled studies the five A's model was developed. The five A's model has been promoted on a large scale through government approved clinical practical guidelines:

1- Ask

2- Advise

3- agree

4- Assist

5- Arrange a follow up .

For example, when we ask about tobacco use, it involves clear and healthy advice for the smokers to quit it with the intention to offer help. The agree step starts with assessing the patient's readiness to quit smoking .For assistance you have to intervene in the smokers life in a motivational way. The final stage is to make a follow up support and assistance which includes reference to more intensive or customized help in order to maintain the changes in the behavior of the smokers.
