Imagine you receive a phone call/text message from an actual friend or relative who asks you, “HOW IS YOUR ONLINE SCHOOL GOING?” Write a two-paragraph email to your instructor (Ms. Ivy) identifying how you will respond to the specific audience:

  • In the first paragraph, identify the friend or relative you have in mind and explain what you think that person really wants to know in asking the question.

  • In the second paragraph, explain how you will respond. What will you tell your friend or relative and why? What won’t you tell him or her and why?

Dear Ms. Ivy,

This mail is intended on how I will respond to a person asking about the online class.

My friend Tara asked me how my online classes were going. She is a good friend of mine, and she is about to join as a professor at a nearby college. She recently told me that she would have to take online classes for the students due to the recent pandemic attack. So her query is genuine and wants to know how she should take classes, how to teach a complex subject efficiently through online classes, how to conduct tests via online means, how to get attendance, how to ensure students are attending the class properly etc., were her queries. And as I am a student and I am experiencing online classes, I can help her with these questions.

My response will be as follows: As she is about to start her carrier as a teacher, I need to help her completely. To be honest online classes are comfortable to attend. We can do it from our home, which is our comfort zone. Google meet or zoom calls are efficient too. To conduct tests or make announcements on assignments, one can also use Google classroom. Thereby late submissions can be prevented. The screen sharing feature of Google meet or zoom can help the teacher teach more efficiently. The major problems occur when students start to talk or chat in the middle of the classes; to stop that, you can ask them to mute their call. To ensure maximum attendance ask the students to switch on the camera for taking attendance, call out the name, and ensure attendance to only the ones who responded because the rest might not be present. Some students switch their cameras on the premises, which is an issue, but it can be prevented through strict attendance. So these are the facts to be considered. But overall online classes are excellent and efficient.
