Polio is an acute viral infection caused by an RNAVirus. It is primarily an infection of the human alimentary tract, but the virus may infect the cental nervous system in a very small percentage.
Causes:
Polio is caused by polio virus.
Polio spread through contact with the feces of an infected person or through exposure to plegm or mucus when an infected person cough or sneezes
Polio can also be transmitted by handling objects that are contaminated with fecal matters containing virus and then putting hands in once mouth.
Poor hygiene or unsanitary conditions leading to contamination of food or water supplies with the virus can leads to outbreaks.
Symptoms:
Fever
Headache
Nausea
Fatigue
Sore throat
Pain in arms and legs
Stiffness of neck
It can also lead to spinal involvements like paraesthesia, meningitis, paralysis etc
Prognosis :
It depends on the extent of damage that it caused by the polio virus. Only few patients show symptoms and prognosis will be easily.
Supportive treatment is important.
Emotional impact:
Social distancing and isolation created a sense of mental illness among the public. Public were having fear and anxiety. People try to avoid the patients and this creates a stigma and a mental depression among the public
Outcome of polio virus:
The outcome after polio in different countries were different. Access to continuous rehabilitation to maintain physical independence, improves the ability to earn their own income and lessens the need for disability pensions.

Target groups for polio and corona are children and persons with low immune system

Polio does still exist. Although polio cases have decreased by over 99% mote than 350000cases are still reported. Three countries in the world Pakistan, Afghanistan and Nigeria still have cases of polio
