imagine you are a legal cannabis grower and you have signed a contract to suply as much CBC oil as is possible to a pharmaceutical company. However, your license from the Canadian government only allows you to grow 1000 plantsat a time. You thereforewish to prduce a strain of cannabis that produces more thanthe current averageof 5% CBD per gramof dry plant (some plants have higheramounts of CBD others less). Explain how you might increase CBD production in your farm in 10 generations? Explain the biological basis for why your approach would work.

Expert Solution

Increase the CBD production: The most important and effective mode of increasing the CBD production in the farm is to choose right variety of seed. Some of the strains are genetically modified for higher CBD production.

Based on the study, it is reccomended and very important to keeps the plants healthy, nourished and free from diseases, thus the healthiest plants in turn produce greater cannabinoid content which is vital for CBD production too. Another method for high yield of CBD production is allowing the plants to grow and sets flowering and can be harvested when 90% of the hairs turned brown or amber. Early harvesting will lead to minimum production of CBD content.

Other techniques to be followed in the farm to increase CBD yield:

1. warm air temperature

2. warm soil temperature

3. lower levels of precipitation (flowering or watering).

Most of the cannabis industry produces industrial hemp for CBD isolation rather than marijuna. Genetically hemp produces high CBD than marijuna.

Benefits of CBD:

1. It provides relief from variety of symptoms like seziures, spasms, anxiety and nausea. It also provides relief for some people from multiple sclerosis, PTSD and for cancer treatments.

2. Higher levels of CBD in cannabis mute the psychoactive effects of THC.

3. More relaxing and less racing effect with buds.
