Accoring to the equation: AssO3 + 3C = 3CO +2As

the reaction of 1gmol of AssO3 with carbon will result in the formation of:

A. 1 gmol of CO

B. 1 gmol of As

C. 28 g of CO

D. 150 g of As

Solutions

Expert Solution

AssO3 + 3C 3CO +2As

According to the above balanced equation ,

1 mole of AssO3 produces 3 moles of CO

                       OR

1 gmole of AssO3 produces 3 gmoles of CO     -------(1)

According to the above balanced equation ,

1 mole of AssO3 produces 2 moles of As

                       OR

1 gmole of AssO3 produces 2 gmoles of AS     -------(2)

According to the above balanced equation ,

1 mole of AssO3 produces 3 moles of CO

                       OR

1 gmole of AssO3 produces 3 gmoles of CO

Molar mass of CO is = 12+16 = 28 g/mol

1 gmole of AssO3 produces 3x28 g of CO

                                               = 84 g of CO

So 1 gmol of AssO3 produces 84 g of CO                            ----(3)

FRom the balanced equation ,

1 mol of AssO3 produces 2 mol of As

                          OR

1 gmol of AssO3 produces 2 gmol of As

Molarmass of As = 75 g/mol

1 gmol of AssO3 produces 2 x 75(g/mol)xmol of As

                                          = 150 g of As

So 1 gmol of AssO3 produces 150 g of As          ------(4)

From (1) , (2) , (3) & (4)   option (D) is correct
