1 Distribution of a population of individuals
2 Distribution of a particular sample of individuals fro the population
3 Distribution of mean
Explain the difference in all three distributions to someone who has never taken statistics class before.
Solution:
Let us consider the number of hours a 10 year old spends watching videos for 10 days.
Let us use 10 days data to study the three distribution.

Hours | 1 | 1.5 | 2 | 3 | 1 | 2 | 1.5 | 3 | 2.5 | 2 |
1. Distribution of a population of individuals
The population is whole set of values that we are interested in. It includes all the elements from a set of data.
Here the above 10 days data are population distribution.
2 Distribution of a particular sample of individuals from the population.
Now let us consider the below sample from the above data set.
Days | 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 |
Hours | 1 | 1.5 | 2 | 3 |
Here we have taken only 4 days data set. This is called sample distribution.
3 Distribution of mean
Let us find the mean of sample we have considered from the second table.
Mean=Sum of all data/ Number of data=(1+1.5+2+3)/4=7.5/4=1.875
The average number of hours 10year old watches videos is 1.875 hours.
