If a person had interest in seeing a difference in scores between day and evening sections one would use?

-paired t-test

-independent t-test

-multiple regression

-1 sample t-test

Which of the above

Solutions

Expert Solution

if a person had to test the difference in scores between day and evening sections he would select an independent t-test.

here we assume that the person has two different sections i.e. the students who appear in the day section are not allowed to appear in the evening section.

Multiple regression is a statistical technique used to predict the outcome or the probability of the outcome of a dependent variable with the help of independent variables. here the person is trying to test for the difference in scores, therefore Multiple Regression is not the Proper Choice.

Between day and evening sections indicate we will have two samples that means the Statistical Test should use these two samples. One Sample t-test uses only one sample. Therefore, 1 sample t-test is also not appropriate.

the paired t-test is used to test whether the means of two paired measurements are significantly different or not. Since morning and evening sections are two independent categories(samples) ,paired t-test can not be used

here we assume that the person has two different sections i.e. the students who appear in the day section are not allowed to appear in the evening section which indicates that there are two independent samples and therefore the only option left is to use Independent t-test.

A professor has recently taught two sections of the same course with only one difference between the sections. In one section, he used only examples taken from sports applications, and in the other section, he used examples taken from a variety of application areas. The sports themed section was advertised as such; so students knew which type of section they were enrolling in. The professor has asked you to compare student performance in the two sections using course grades and...

Suppose that when Team A and Team B play basketball, the difference between their scores in the first half (Team A’s score minus Team B’s score) has approximately a normal distribution with mean 0 and standard deviation 8. Likewise, the difference between their scores in the second half has approximately a normal distribution with mean 0 and standard deviation 8. Also, first half and second half scores are independent.
