Why do dictators hold elections? (comparative politics)
ANS)Elections are hallmark of democracy. A dictator is basically a ruler with the total power over a country ,one who has controlled by force,They actually have power. They are the persons who behave in an autocratic way. Not all dictators hold open elections. It depends how he justifies his mandate. They justify themselves as dictators claiming that they have 'the will and power of the people' even though elections are fixed or non-existent. They actually loves to be DOUBLESPEAK.This also allows dictators to dissipate international pressure on them to 'hold elections' as the election propoganda is hard to be proved and the internal judiciary options for complains is also pre-arranged.This type of behaviour helps them to take control over the elections, where elections are held, but the process is completely manipulated so as to leave little chance to the opposition to win it.
Now mass media are around everywhere, and even the dictators have to pretend that they are in power by the will of the people. It will be a long time before they actually disappear, but they already rule less than half of the world's people, and they all have to go through a charcade of democracy to legitimise their rule. This is the truth.
