the major principles and concepts of atraumatic care and how they are used to prevent and minimize stress for children and their families.
Atraumatic care - Is the provision of therapeutic care in settings , by personnel and through the use of interventions that eliminate or minimize the psychological and physical distress experienced by children and their families in the health care system, any procedure performed on a child gives has physical and psychological distress and atraumatic care offers the opportunity to limit or minimize such issues.
Key principles of atraumatic care
1) preventing or minimizing physical stressors.
2) preventing or minimizing parent/child stressors.
3) promoting a sense of control.
Prevention and minimize the stress-
1) Fostering the parent-child relationship during hospitalization.
2) Preparing the child before any unfamiliar treatment or procedure.
3) Allowing the child privacy .
4) Providing play activites for expression of fear and aggression.
5) Providing choices for children.
6) Respecting cultural differences.
7) Enough sleep.
8) Removal of bad smells around the child of caregivers.
