Assume the CEO has appointed you to spearhead the ED IS strategic planning effort. What are the first steps you will take? Outline a general plan of action for the next three months. Indicate, by title, whom you would involve in the process. Explain your choices.
* to assess the previous strategy plan and the outcomes of it
* outline the well appreciated and much depressing outcomes
* to explore each and every staff in the department to know the problems faced by them on daily basis
* plan the interventions accordingly.
General plan of action:
1. To standardize the acquisition of key data elements according to the regional health authorities.
2. To align clinical decision makers with policymakers through the interpretation of ED data
3. To implement the screening tool for the recognition,treatment and documentation of incidents.
4. To initiate strategic demonstration projects.
5. To implement rapid diagnostic testing for code red patients.
6. To keep the track of the techniques,medication regimen and monitoring strategies for the improvement of provision of procedural sedation and analgesics.
7. To collaborate with other regional simulation based programs.
8. To create knowledge around clinical best practices.
People involved in this process:
The ED incharge physician: as he can contribute and help in implementing the plan of action
The ED nurse incharge: as the nurse can supervise and keep in control the nurse practitioner under her.
The policy making department and the technical group of people who can help in validation and proper documentation of data.
