In a large city’s recent mayoral election, 131,506 out of 309,153 registered voters actually turned out to vote. If 20 registered voters are randomly selected, find the probability that 7 of them voted in the mayoral election. Use a TI-83, TI-83 plus, or TI-84 calculator to find the probability.
Solution:
Given: In a large city’s recent mayoral election, 131,506 out of 309,153 registered voters actually turned out to vote.
Thus
p =probability of people voted
p = 131506 / 309153
p = 0.425375
n = Sample size = Number of registered voters are randomly selected
n = 20
Thus x follows Binomial( n = 20 , p = 0.425375 )
We have to find P(X = 7 )= .......? using TI-83, TI-83 plus, or TI-84 calculator.
Use following steps in TI 84calculator:
Press 2ND
Press VARS
Select binompdf(
Enter Numbers:
Click on Paste and press Enter two times.
Thus
P( X = 7 ) = 0.145484
P( X = 7 ) = 0.1455
