PTSD - It is post traumatic stress disorder , occur in any individual who has experienced the traumatic event in life . It is difficult to assess sign and symptoms of it but as a nurse we uses critical thoughts to assess the patients risk.
It can occur when someone experience or see traumatic event for example , physical assault or sexual assault, an accident , or unexpected death of someone who is close.
For diagnosis , the person must be experiencing a certain number of symptoms which lie in four specific categories , re- experiencing , avoidance, persistent negative alterations in cognitions and mood , or alterations in activity.
Subjective symptoms in patients are -- irritation , difficulty in sleep, lack of interest, emotional weakness, mood swings , loss of memory , etc .it can also be seen in alcoholic , drug abusers, self destructive behaviour.
Nursing interventions are -- access all vitals and perform nursing assessment, to ensure safety of clients, assess anxiety level, gain trust with client, behave calmly, encourage him to share feelings , teach relaxation techniques like deep breathing .
