Imagine that you have just been released from prison after having served a period of five years.
What are the first things you will do?
What problems do you expect to face upon your reentry into the community?
Will it be likely based on your family, work, financial position that you will return to prison based on committing additional crimes?
The first few things, I would like to do are as follows:
1. To reunite with the family, friends and well-wishers who were always there with me in my difficult times.
2. To make efforts to be re-accepted in the society and contribute as a responsible citizen.
3. To find out a job or do a business to help family raising the livelihood.
4. To comply with the rules and promise to myself and family of not committing any crime in the future.
--------------------
The first problem will be the identity problem that will cause problems to reestablish myself in the community. There will be a five year gap from the community and it will be pose challenges for the community also to accept me as before. The second problem will be the cultural problem as the community will be changed considerably in the last five years. The third problem is related to the informal group formation with the community and becoming social. It will happen due to the long gap in communication with the community.
---------------------
Financial position will be the likely cause of an additional crime.
Due to my prison background, I may not get good wage or reward. It will weaken my financial position and I may not be able to support my family. It may force me to commit fraud or adopt illegal means to earn more money. As a result, I will get trapped to be in additional crime and return to the prison.
