Hypertension and High Cholesterol are common diagnoses for both men and women. These conditions need to be treated with both non-pharmacological and pharmacological interventions to prevent further cardiac complications.
You are otherwise a very healthy individual who has just received a call from your health care provider stating that your blood pressure and LDL cholesterol levels were high. You immediately begin researching medications and other ways to reduce both of these as soon as possible.
Personalize an action plan to improve your newly diagnosed medical conditions.
Include the following aspects in the discussion:
Expand on these two diseases and why they need to be
treated as soon as possible and with effectively
Share which medications (at least two) might be the
best for you based on your research
Determine what side affects you will be mindful
of
Discuss other ways to reduce both of these with
non-pharmacologic interventions
1) Hypertension: It states that increasedforce exerted by te blood aganist the walls of blood vessels as it flows through them .Hypertension is a major risk factor for coronory ,cerebral and peripheral vascular disease and the disease is astmptomatic .
Pharmacological interventions:
a.Medication therapy is individualized for each clent and the selection of the medication is based on the such factors as the client's age, culture, presence of coexisting conditions, severity of the hypertension and clients preference.
Medications include 1)Beta adrenergic blockers like carvedilol, labetalol, pindlol and so on.It inibit response to beta adrengeric stimulation thus decreasing cardiac output and it release catecholamines, epinehrine and norepinephrine thus decresaing heart rate and bp .Side effects includebradycardia, bronchospasm, hypotension, nausea, vomiting and so on.2)Thiazide diuretics incease sodium and water excretion by inhibiting sodium reabsorption in the dista tuble of the kidney and it is used in hypertension and peripheral edema .Side effects include hypovolemia, headaches, rashes, photosensitivity and so on.
Non pharmacological interventions:
aWeight reduction
b Dietry sodium restictions to 2g daily as prescribed
c Avoidance of smoking
d relaxation techniques and biofeedback therapy
e Elimination of unncessary medications
2) High Cholestrol: Increased amount of cholestrol in the blood. If it is untreated increases the risk og cardiovascular diseases, including heart attack and stroke.
Pharmacological interventions:
a Antilipemic medications reduce serum levels of cholestrol, triglycerides,or low density lipoproteins. For instance:Ezetimibe, fenofibrate, niacin and so on.Side effects include,Flatuence, nausea, vomiting, head ache and so on.
b HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors:it is highly protein bound and should not administered with anticoagulants.Examples are Atrovastin, lovastatin, and so on .Side effects are, blurred vision, dizzinessrash, puritis, muscle cramps
Non pharmacological interventions:
a Dietry modifications : Avoid fat rich food
b weight reduction
c physical excercise
d avoid smoking
e Eat high fiber diet
