Problem statement:- We have to devise a research question and based on the research problem we have to answer the following questions.
Given:- Along with the question asked, additional information on the research question is provided. The research question decided is -"Are females with a higher education (at least a 4 year degree or higher) more or less likely to be victims of abuse than those that do not have any higher education credentials"
Solution:-
Question 1:- Develop a Research Question
The research question is provided along with the information. The research question decided is ""Are females with a higher education (at least a 4 year degree or higher) more or less likely to be victims of abuse than those that do not have any higher education credentials".
Here in this research question we are trying to investigate whether having a higher education has any relation/influence on being more or less vulnerable to abuse.
In this statistical study we compare the proportion of females with higher education who are victims of abuse with proportion of females without higher education who are victims of abuse
Question 2:- State the Hypotheses
The statistical test to be used is two-sample proportion hypothesis test
Note: Based on the research question we can formulate 3 hypothesis testing
Case 1:
Null hypothesis(H0): Proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is equal to Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse
Alternate Hypothesis(Ha): proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is not equal to Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse
Case 2:
Null hypothesis(H0): Proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is lesser or equal to Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse
Alternate Hypothesis(Ha): proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is greater than Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse
Case 3:
Null hypothesis(H0): Proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is greater or equal to Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse
Alternate Hypothesis(Ha): proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is lesser than Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse.
Question 3:- One-tailed or Two-tailed
Case 1 in previous question on hypothesis testing is a two-tailed test.
Case 2 in previous question on hypothesis testing is a one-tailed test. This is a right-tailed test.
Case 3 in previous question on hypothesis testing is a one-tailed test. This is a left-tailed test.
Question 4:- Expected Conclusion
Suppose we assume a hypothetical p-value for case-1 of hypothesis test as 0.003 and we are working with a 95% confidence then we reject our null hypothesis and conclude that proportion of females with higher education who are victim of abuse is not equal to Proportion of females without higher education who are victim of abuse.
