Setting and Storyline :
This short movies is basically an anthology of four stories that
sheds light on modern relationships from Indian woman's viewpoint.
Each story tries to address the basic instinct of women in India
which has been repressed over ages due to the issues like
population explosion, gender discrimination, conservative society.
It also emphasises on weak condition of poor women in India who are
abused physically and emotionally. One of these stories is covered
here.
MAIN CHARACTERS:
1. Sudha(Bhumi Pednekar),an Indian maid
2. Ajit(Neil Bhoopalam)the employer - who is very rich compared to
the maid
SITUATION & ANALYSIS:
Story begins with a heavy make out happening between Sudha(Bhumi
Pednekar) - the maid and Ajit(Neil Bhoopalam)- the employer. Sudha
works honestly and felicitously. She does her work wholeheartedly.
She learns that marriage of Ajit is going to be fixed. Sudha,
serves tea and snacks to the girl's parents and finds uncomfortable
to see Ajit with the girl. Sudha glares at Ajit and exits. The
marriage is finalized and Sudha is given some sweets. After
finishing the day's chores, when Sudha is waiting for lift, the
maid(Rasika Dugal)of another house comes and tells how her owner
gave her a salwaar Kameez (Indian standard dress code for maids).
In turn Sudha gives the maid her sweets also. On being asked "Your
day also went good!" Sudha replies with a nod. The film ends with
Sudha getting into the lift eating the sweet. Indirectly it conveys
how maids are treated and how Ajit used her for sexual
satisfaction. Clearly shows how rich use the poor. When it comes to
poor women, they're also physically abused.
RELATED SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGICAL CONCEPTS AND
THEORIES:
In general, subtle psychological abuse has stronger and more
consistent associations with women's state and relationship
perceptions than their partners' overt psychological abuse,
violence, or sexual aggression. Socioeconomic status make the poor
women most vulnerable in the whole spectrum. Researches have been
carries out which have shown how this type of abuse has long
lasting impact on subconscious of the victims and how it impacts
the confidence and self-respect of the abused life long. in
countries like India, societal behaviour also changes for such
women and they are also mentally harassed even if they're not at
any fault.
