What will you be looking for in a political candidate the next time you vote, in terms of economic philosophy and economic policies? What have you learned so far that has influenced your position? 200 words
I think a political candidate should be a liberal and open-minded both politically and economically to make decisions on the basis of pragmatism and not on the basis of sheer nationalism or personal whims. The candidate should be able to build confidence with various stakeholders, listen to issues, view things from a 360-degree perspective and make logical decisions. I want my ideal political candidate to be a liberal, who can implement liberal economic policies such as supporting free trade, allow immigrants, take proactive actions against racism, take action against global warming, strengthen democratic institutions, etc.
What I have learned from economic texts that liberal economic policies such as free trade help all countries, create a win-win situation for all, and increase the overall welfare of people. In simple words, trade benefits all. In addition, immigration helps in making America more competetive by allowing American firms to get access to global talents. Moreover, liberal political and social positions create a more healthy society in which people from all communities and racial backgrounds feel safe and having equal rights as the citizens of the United States of America. More liberal economic policies and political philosophies will make America a more prosperous and innovative nation.
