Career Management: Interviewing; You will be a recruiter for a large chain of national department stores, looking to fill manager trainee positions. Then flip the switch and you will be a candidate for the jobs. The company is specifically looking for candidates who demonstrate these three qualities: initiative, dependability, and willingness to assume responsibility.
● As the recruiter(s), discuss how you would assess the
applicant in each of the three desired qualities? What questions
would you ask or what would you use as an indicator to determine
whether the candidate possesses the quality?
● As the applicant(s), discuss what you would say to convince the
recruiters that you possess each of these qualities (You have yo
think outside the box).
As a Recruiter-
1) Initiative-As a recruiter, I will put a certain query in front of the applicant such as what if you get to see some zone of the store has caught fire.
2)Dependability- To check whether the applicant is dependable or not, I will ask about any such situation he encountered in the past where he had to comprehend and obey the rules and regulations of the company despite being right for that particular scenario. His answer will reflect if he can be considered dependable or not.
3)Willingness to assume responsibility-This quality can be sensed by the applicant's past work history if he has taken any current plus supplementary roles in the organization.
As an Applicant-
1)Initiative-As an applicant, I can portray an incident of fire in the old organization. I will mention all the steps that I took at that particular situation without wasting time, for example, raising an alert, asking the fire extinguisher team.
2)Dependability-As an applicant-I will justify this by explaining one incident that happened in my past organization. Our store chose to take a state contract which I resisted because it could have harmed the culture, however, once the decision was concluded by the organization, I walked up to lead that particular project as I had some relevant experience for that role as well.
3)Willingness to assume responsibility-Last but not the least, willingness to assume responsibility can be justified by one example from previous employment history. I can put forward the scenario when my store Lead had to leave the job and since I had all the necessary knowledge and management skills, I was being asked to take his position as well as perform my daily based tasks, which I accepted and performed well.
