When does a protostar become a star? Explain?
The first stage of star is when a nebula collects and makes a mass of gas and dust. A nebula is a cloud of dust, hydrogen, helium and ionized gases. Most nebulae are of great size and millions of light years in its extent.Mass of nebular is only a few kilograms.
Prostar begins to contract under its own gravity. As soon as its high gravity becomes the cause of cloud to collapse. Prostar starts to spin and magnetic field is crated around it.
Because of the magnetic field, it creates stellar wind and finally blows the gas and particles away.Due to compression of matter it becomes more hot and dense. Prostar is the second stage of new born star. The pressure and collisions cause the gravitational energy to be converted into heat.
There are nine different stages to become a true star.
When the temperature of a protostar rises more than 107 K, it becomes a real star. At this high temperature, hydrogen fusion starts. The process of fusion heats the star, shrinks the core and causes the star to emit light.
The mass of a protostar must have 0.08 solar masses to become a new star.
