Identify and describe four applications of quantum computing; Explain how regular computing would not be suitable for this application and provide a You Tube video(up to 10 min) of each of these applications (200 words).
Quantum computing is the process of developing computing technology based on quantum mechanic, which defines the behaviour of materials and energy on atomic and subatomic levels. That is, the regular computer we use can only encode informations in 1s and 0s whereas quantum computing can perform operations based on probability of an object's state before it is measured. So quantum computing can process exponentially more data.
Quantum computing is in the emerging state due to its huge processing capacity. There are several applications of quantum computing and many more are still under development.
Applications
1. Healthcare- Treatments
Quantum computers are used in treatments like radio therapy. Because they can rapidly model and simulate complex scenarios for optimal treatment. It is used to increase the simulations per sec and thus minimising the radiation damages caused to healthy tissue. More simulation in less time corresponds to beffer efficiancy. This cannot be achieved using regular computing since simulations cannot be increased beyond the limit.
2. Marketing
One of the major areas of quantum computing is marketing. Due to its ability to analyze and manipulate huge quantity of consumer data from vast variety of sources. The big data allows commerce to target individual consumers with marketings tailored to their intrests. Thus helping to influence the spending of the customers through their intrests pattern matching. This Big data collection and processing cannot be done by regular computing.
3. Finance
Fraud is the major thread faced by finance industry. Quantum computing is used for fraud detection because of its huge data processing ability ,fast and vast pattern detection rate and lesser time to train neural networks. Regular computing takes time in pattern detection and mapping.
4. Logistic
Quantum computing is used in logistic to calculate optimal routes in applications such as traffic management, freight, air traffic etc. Improved analysis and modeling of data helps to optimise workflow associated with transport, supply-chain etc. Here calculations and recalculations of optimal routes can be done within less time. This will not be feasible in case of regular computing.
Some other application of quantum computing are in the field of meteorology, space, research etc.
