Discuss the advantages and disadvantages of job specialization. Give examples of each. Does job specialization provide organizations a net benefit or a net loss? Explain.
Job specialisation is a process of assigning jobs to individuals
or a set of individuals who are expertise in a particular area to
complete the task and focus on their area effectively.
Advantages of job specialisation
• Reducing risk
Job specialisation helps to reduce risk because an employee perform
the same job repeatedly will makes less or no mistake. They know
about the issues and pitfalls on the task.
• Saves money
Job specialisation provides the cost advantages also . As the
employees are fixed on a job for a long period of time it doesn't
requires training all the time. When a person concentrates on the
same work ahelps to reduce quality control cost.
• Higher revenue
Expertise people at workplace produce high revenue by the way of
reducing defects.
• Less supervision
As specialisation requires training the employees, employees become
expertised in their jobs and requires less or no supervision.
Disadvantages
• Complacency
Concentrating on a same job for a long period leads to complacency,
so much mistakes may happen. doing variety of jobs and task helps
to engage the brain and body of workers.
• Isolation
If employees are specialised only on one aspect of company's goal,
they may not feel connected to the whole process. They feel they
are disconnected to coworkers. Job specialisation make them
isolated from the whole process.
• Can't multitask
Job specialisation doesn't allow workers to perform multitasking
job as they are focusing on one aspect of the job.
• More absenteeism
Job specialisation results more absenteeism as the employees feel
boring by doing same job all the time without any break.

• Delivery boys makes deliveries to same place everyday will know
about the route and potential traffic than someone who don't drive
that route all the time.
• We can take the same example in disadvantage also. If the
delivery boy delivers products at same place every day may not be
able to attempt delivery to different places at urgencies. Because
he may not be aware about the route and traffics of that
place.

Definitely job specification produces benifts to the company.
[Having people with expertise knowledge will definitely reduce the
defect and this helps to increase productivity. Employees may
produce more when they concentrate on one specialised role.Job
specialisation helps to achieve Economics of scale by increasing
production and reducing cost.
As the employees are concentrated on a few or even one task they
may become more efficient and takes less time and money in in
producing a good. This is directly impacting the revenue of the
organisation.
