1.) Your patient has an age of 52 years. Use the HR method calculate the target exercise HR (bpm) at a moderate intensity of 43 %.

1a.)Your patient has a max VO2 of 76 ml/(kg*min). Use the VO2 method calculate the target exercise VO2 (mL/(kg*min)) at a vigorous intensity of 78 %.

Solutions

Expert Solution

Your patient has an age of 52 years. Use the HR method calculate the target exercise HR (bpm) at a moderate intensity of 43 %.

Ans- age of a patient = 52 years

Exercise intensity= 43%

Average maximum heart rate of the individual is = 220 bpm

FOR CALCULATION OF MAXIMUM HEART RATE OF A INDIVIDUAL, SUBTRACTING AGE FROM THE AVERAE MAXIMUM HEART RATE.

Average maximum heart rate of patient (100%) = maximum heart – age of a patient = 220-52 = 168bpm

Target heart rate of a patient of intensity 43% = maximum heart of patient X % of target HR zone = 168 X 43%= (168 X 43)/ 100 = 7224/100 = 72.24 = 72 bpm approx.

Your patient has a max VO2 of 76 ml/(kg*min). Use the VO2 method calculate the target exercise VO2 (mL/(kg*min)) at a vigorous intensity of 78 %.

Ans- VO2 is a maximum consumption of O2 during exercise

Max VO2(100%) = 76 ml/(kg * min)

Target intensity = 78%

Max VO2 at 78% exercise intensity = max VO2 at 100% * target intensity

= 76 ml (kg X min) X 78% = (76 ml (kg *min) X 78)/ 100= 5928/100 = 59.28 = 60ml (kg * min) approx.

(note = 100 in the formula is used to remove %, to make maths calculation easy)
