What is the universal audience and what is its pupose and characteristics
The concept of universal audience has been put forward by Parelman where, thisis in the form of an imagined audience that would be serving in the form of an argumentative as well as ethical test for a rhetor. This would be requiring the speaker in imagination of a composite audience that would be containing individuals who hail from different backgrounds.
Universal audience as a concept has had criticisms for being shaped as being an ideal, since, it is difficult to achieve. Though, this might still be ethical for a speaker and a critical tool for the audience.
Universal audience would be providing shared agreement standards such that argumentation would be measured. Also, the universal audience would be providing details of something that is reasonable and something that isn’t, in any given case. Universal audiences tend to contradict logical fallacies. The universal audience should be relying on the standards or some different criteria, thus, they are referred to as reasonable people.
