1.Attitude towards aspects of health literacy

Health literacy refers to accessing, understanding and using information to make health decisions. It involves knowledge, motivation and activation, it is a complex thing to measure and to influence.  

Aspects of health literacy are spreaded throughout, and involved deeply within, the multi-disciplinary literature and publications devoted to public health; rural health; obesity and nutrition; tobacco, alcohol and other drugs; health education; health promotion; health communications; gender studies; geriatric medicine; psychology; social psychology; education; literacy and numeracy studies; marketing; nursing; primary care; cancer; heart disease; sport and human movement; and international health development.

Health literacy is important because it affects a individual’s ability to manage personal health: to navigate the healthcare system, share health history with healthcare providers, engage in self-care and manage chronic disease, and understand concepts such as probability and risk.
