Answer:
Two industries that have emerged or have been revived as a result
of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana are mentioned below:
- Local Poultry Industry : Ghana’s Agricultural
Improvement Bank has reported a GHC500 million (US$ 87 million)
credit facility in support of the government’s Broiler
Revitalization Program pointed at expanding the residential
production of chicken.
- Ghana as of now imports over US$ 300 million (around 180,000
mt) worth of chicken every year, or the equivalent of 5 million
chickens each week. The country’s claim generation equates to
around 58,000 mt while national demand is around 400,000 mt.
- The Broiler Revitalization Program points to restore the
poultry industry and empower development in related divisions. The
Realistic Online notes the activity would target the whole value
chain, from businesses locked in within the generation of poultry
bolster to the raising of the birds and the handling and marketing
of chicken meat.
- Local Rice Farmers and Local Rice Producing
Firm : Local rice producing farmers and firms also can get
benefited in COVID-19. Rice plays an important role in Ghana and
half of the demand of the rice is met by importing from other
countries in Ghana. Due to COVID-19, supply chain got disrupted so
importing became very costly and government focused on local
industry to meet rice demand.
Few of the approach which is being followed for this are:
- Aiming for Self Reliance : Rice breeder
Maxwell Darko said because of Corona we realized the importance of
investing more on local rice production increase.
- Government has launched food and job program as well few years
back which will boost this initiative of self-reliance.
- Government is projecting by 2023 because of all these programs
Ghana will be self-reliant in food production.
- Eat Ghana Rice Campaign proved the market
potential for the local rice in Ghana community.
