increase inracarnial presuure is a rise in the presuure inside the skull that can resukt from or cause brain injury.

CAUSES:

in creased intracarnial pressure can be due to a rise in pressure to the cerebrospinal fluid.this is the fluid that surrounds tha brain and spinal cord.increase in ICP can also to a rise pressure within the rain brain itself.this can be caused by mass (such asa tumor),bleeding into the brain or fluid around the brain,or swelling within the brain itself

an increase an ICP is as a serious and life-theatning medical problem.the pressure can damage the brain or spinal cord by pressuring on important structures and by restricting blood flow into the brain

many conditions can increase ICP common cause include:

-aneurysm rupture and subarchnoid hemorrhage

-brain

-encephalitis irritation and swelling,or inflammation,of the brain

-headache

-hydrocephalus(increased fluid around the brain

-hyperstensive brain hemorrhage(bleeding in the brain from high blood pressure

-seizure

-stroke

-meningitis(infection of the membranes covering the brain and spinal cord)

-epidural hematome(blood between the inside of the skull and the outer covering of the brain.

Intracranial presuure(ICP)is the pressure exerted by fluids suc as cerebrospinal fluid(CSF)inside the skull and and on the brain tissue.ICP is measured in millimeters of mercury(mmhg)and ,at rest,is normally 7-5mmhg for a supine adult.the body has various mechanisms by which it keeps the ICP stable, with CSF pressures varying by about 1mmhg in normal adults through shifts in production and aborption of CSF.

Changes in ICP are attributed to volume changes in one or more of the consistuents in the cranium.CSF pressure has been shown to be inflence bu abrupt changes in intrathoracic presuure during coughing(inta abdominal pressure)the valsalva maneuver, and communication with the vasculature(venous and arterial systems.

intacranial hypertension, commonly abbreviated IH,ICP or raised ICP,is elevated of the presuure in the cranium.ICP is normally 7-15 mmhg;at 20-25mmhg,the upper limit is normal, treatment to reduce ICP may be needed
