Instructions: Reflect on Herzberg's motivating factors...
Explain how each of these factors acts as a motivator in the healthcare management setting. For each, explain how a healthcare manager can create an environment to improve motivation using that factor. Your response should be one paragraph for each factor.
Achievement: A sense of accomplishing something on a professional or person front is what achievement is, in the healthcare management setting it can definitely act a as motivator because people wish to achieve and grow their skillset so it becomes very important to show them a path of achievement in the healthcare system so that they can strive harder to achieve more. Healthcare manager can adopt adapt learning wherein every employee is trained for the skill that he or she does not has and then probably the employee can achieve more.
Recognition: Every employee strive to gets recognised and appreciated for his or her work, so it becomes very essential for the healthcare manager also to implement a p[policy of rewards and recognition so that every employee can be awarded for his or her hard work which can motivate that employee to achieve harder.
Work Itself: The kind of work that is allotted to any employee in the healthcare department should be quality work i.e. the work should be as per the education and skill set of the employee so that he or she remains motivated to achieve higher. The manager should find the right person for the right job and ensure that there are no demotivating factors.
Responsibility: It acts as a great motivating factor when employees are given ownership of their work i.e. they should be held accountable for all the success and failure of the work that they do. This fills in the employee with great energy to keep working harder and achieve more. Healthcare manager can divide the team into departments and each department should be controlled by some employees so they would also get the responsibility and lastly each employee should be handed over a balanced scorecard according to which he or she should work and be responsible for the tasks.
