1a. Explain primary succession?
1b. How does it differ from secondary succession?
1c. Give an example of each?
2. Discuss ways to control invasive species
Answer :
1a. primary succession : if an area in any of the basic environments such as terrestrial, freshwater or marine is colonised by organisms for the first time, the succession is termed as primary succession. thus the primary succession begins on a sterile area( an area not occupied by a community) such as newly exposed rocks or sand dune where the conditions of existance may not be favourable initially.
1b. Secondary succession : if an area under colonisation has been cleared by external agencies such as burning, grazing etc., of the previous plants, it is called secondary succession. usually the rate of secondary succession is faster than the primary succession because of better nutrient and other conditions.
