1. Name three different ways to explore stress management. Provide examples of each.

Answer- Ways of stress management are:

1. Identify the source of stress in our life:

It Is always easy to overlook upon our thoughts and feelings that contribute to stress like eg: stress at work, stress related to divorce in a family etc. But we have to actually understand and try to eliminate the exact cause of stress in these sitations

Sometimes the exact cause here might be not able to fulfill our job demand or not able to make family happy.

Hence the knowledge of elinminating source of stress is very important.

2. Learn to practise the use of 4 A's(Avoid, Alter, Adapt and Accept):

Avoid Unnecessary stress: Responsibilities need to be addressed in a healthy manner. But there are many stressors which can be eliminated. Always know our limits and stick to them. Example: Donot jump into taking up responsibility which is beyond your limit which increases your stress.

Alter the situation: If we cannot change the stressful situation,we can try to alter it, in the form of change in the way we approach it or communicate about it.

Example: Be more expressive than hiding our feelings. Learn to create a balanced schedule.Be positive in compromising in certain situations.

All these activities will reduce stress to ourselves as well as the individuals around us.

Adapt to the stressor: If we cannot change the stressor, then we have to change ourselves to adjust to the situation.

Example: a. Reframe our problems into a different way.So our attitude towards the problem will be in a positive way. b. Practise thankfulness in life:When stress is putting us down, take time to thank for all the blessings that we had and think about the way we were able to lead an appreciative life .

Acept the situations that we cannot change: Some stresses are unavoidable.So instread of carrying it lifelong, learn to accept the situation.

Example:Death of loved ones.

3. Get moving in life: When you are stressed, the last thing individuals think of doing is exercising or getting up out of situation.Physical activity can some time reduce stress.

Example: Use diversional theraphy like hearing music, involving in dance, going for gym etc.

Common effects of stress on body are:

  • Headache
  • Chest Pain
  • Sleep disturbance
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle Tension

Common effects of stress on emotion are:

  • Anger
  • Anxiety
  • Lack of motivation
  • Depression
  • Social Withdrawal

3. What 3 coping skills have you developed over time to help to manage stress?

The coping skill that i follow to manage stress are:

a. Smile and laugh: When we have more stress, it reflects more on our face.Hence smiling and laughing will relieve our nerves from all the stress and automatically it will reflect in our entire body which shows that we are relieved from our stress.

b. Exercise: Adequate exercise benefits our body and minds. Exercises have long term benefits to our body also.Hence they are stress buster.

c. Get Social Support: Whenever we feel stressed, take the help of a friend and open up our hearts or feelings. But when we talk to our friend regarding our stress, ensure that he/she are trustworthy friend.
