Describe the concept of the McDonaldization of society and provide one positive and one negative regarding this concept. Provide your opinion to explain if you feel there are more positives or negatives with this concept
McDonaldization of society-
"The transformation and adoption of the facets allied with the fast food chains in the society are termed together as the McDonaldization of society". This concept was pioneered by sociologist George Ritzer in his book published in 1993.
The rooted convetional essence of the cultures is lost in the waves of "McDonaldization". This further leads to homogenisation.
Positive aspects-
1- More diverse product mix is the outcome of McDonaldization. This results in the provision of the customised products as well.
2- Needs and wants are conveniently/ easily/ comfortably satisfied/ fulfilled. This enhances the customer satisfaction.
3- There's much more uniformity in the processes related to offering.
4- Various cultures can be easily blended through McDonaldization.
Negative aspects-
1- McDonaldization reflects the use of more advanced technology and thus reduces human touch.
2- Mere profits, tangible aspects and the worldly/ materialistic pleasures are considered as the priorities and the inward journey gets hampered.
3- The thirst of expressing the status and imitating the elite societies results in personal and social losses.
