Discuss the security features in SNMPV3 that SNMPV1 and SNMPV2 do not provide
ANSWERS :
ANS 1. The SNMPV1 : It is the first version and is easy to install and involve plain text. It followed open standard but had many drwabacks.
The SNMPV2 : It was developed next to SNMPV1 the main advantage was the use of inform command. It had better error handling and commands.
The SNMPV3 : It is the latest and the best version available. It provides enhanced security.
The security features in SNMPV3 that SNMPV1 and SNMPV2 do not provide :
1. It has USM ( User based Security Model ) which provides message security.
2. It also has VACM ( View based Access Control Model ) which provides the access control to improve the security.
3. It also provides encryption which is not provided by the other 2 , because of this even if the unauthorised people get access to the data they will not be able to read it and use it in a negative way.
4. It also provides the SNMP engine ID identifier which is used to identify the SNMP . The engine ID also helps in providing the key.
