Lipid analysis is the large scale profiling and characterization of various types of lipid in our body by using certain technology such as mass spectrometry. Lipids are, hydrophobic molecules consists of large diverse group of molecules.and are responsible for numerous biological functions including membrane, structures, energy storage, neurological signal transporters, and regulation of gene expression. In addition lipids have also several applications in cosmetic industry.

Nowadays physicians are preferring lipid analysis for thr diagnosis of various conditions, because it is fast , more accurate , reliable and non invasive tool. Moreover, this technique is well established and offer the ability to accommodate numerous lipids in one analysis.

Clinical significance of lipid analysis

In human, there are more than 2000 different lipids which are linked to health and diseases.Their molecular interplay with genes ,proteins and metabolites influences our well being. This interplay strongly affected by cellular supply of each of these lipids. 'Healthy' means, all lipids are perfectly balanced. Each cell must constantly adjust its lipid metabolism to achieve this goal. A disordered lipid metabolism poses a direct threat to health and life it can alter the development and even cause severe diseases.

Rapid diagnosis is crucial to effectively treating disease.Biomarkers have been widely used to diagnose variety of infections and non infectious disease. It also provide valuable information regarding progression and prognosis biomarkers are composed of lipids In such a way lipid analysis helps to diagnosis and prognosis of many diseases.
