the Florida Baker Act Law and the Tarasoff Law. Please write a description of what each of these are and note the difference between the two.
Florida Mental Health Act or Baker Act as it is commonly known was passed in order to reduce the occurrence, severity, duration and disabling aspects of mental, emotional and behavioural disorders. This would mean that it’s a preventive act that aims to actively seek for people who struggle in mental illnesses and provide treatment and service in order to bring them out of it and make them normal people.
Tarasoff Law was passed by the California legislature which requires the psychotherapists to warn a third party only if the therapists believe or predict that their patients posed a serious injury. Although there is an ethical binding for the psychotherapists to protect the confidentiality and privacy of their patients, this law allows the psychotherapists to be more cautious and proactive in terms of preventing any harm to others by their clients.
