We’ve established that heights of 10-year-old boys vary according to a Normal distribution with μ = 138 cm and σ = 7 cm What proportion is less than 124 cm in height?
By the definition of probability, if n is the total number of possible outcomes of an experiment and n(E) is the number of outcomes favourable to an event E , then the probability of an event E is , P(E) = n(E) / n . It also gives us the proportion of the event E occurring, that is, the proportion of the outcomes of event E out of the total number of outcomes.
In this problem , if A be an event that the height of 10 year old boys is less than 124 cm, then the probability that the height is less than 124 cm is equal to the proportion of the heights less than 124 cm.
