What happened at Lexington and Concord?
British troops marched from Boston to Concord in order to seize
an arms cache. On getting alerted by Paul Revere and fellow riders,
the colonial militiamen mobilized their troops and fought against
the British and drove them out. This led to a series of important
battles and is pivotal in declaring open rebellion.
And when? And who
was involved? And why did it happen?
It happened on April 19, 1775. Joseph Warren, Paul Revere, Samuel Prescott and William Dawes from the colonialists. They freed Samuel Adams and John Hancock. The other end was 250 British Redcoats.
It happened due to the ever ending taxed that were being levied
on its 13 American colonies. Sugar Act, Stamp Act, Townshend Act
acted as important reasons for the days leading up to the open
rebellion at Massachusetts.
And what were the
consequences? What did this moment, this episode, this two-pronged
battle reveal about the colonists and about their
adversaries?
It proved that the colonialists could fight against one of the
most powerful armies of the time. They brought about the death of
250 Redcoats and sparked the movement that led to a full-blown
independence struggle in the summer that followed. This revealed
that the colonialists were done with the exploitation by the
adversaries in the name of prosperity and British rule. The
consequences as we know it was several important battles that led
to the American Freedom.
