  1. (5 pts) When they apply for graduation, students at a certain university are required to complete a brief survey about whether they felt they received sufficient value for the tuition they paid. This methodology has inherent sampling bias, particularly if the university is trying to use this data to assess whether its student population are finding value for their tuition dollar. Please describe the types of individuals and/or responses that would likely be overrepresented in this sampling methodology.

Expert Solution

This methodology has inherent sampling bias, : Response bias: the tendency of a person to answer questions on a survey untruthfully. In the given situation, When they apply for graduation, students at a certain university are required to complete a brief survey about whether they felt they received sufficient value for the tuition they paid. The students will naturally respond that they felt they received sufficient value for the tuition they paid. Even though the students have the opinion that they have not received sufficient value for the tuition they paid, they will be afraid of writing the same in survey report since the survey report is not confidentail and the identity of the students are not hidden, the higher authorities are likely to punish those studentswho have ot written favoraby. Thus, dueto the Response bias, theresults of the survey would likely be overrepresented in this sampling methodology.

To avoid tgetting unrealistic result by the overrepresentation, the answers to survey about whether they felt they received sufficient value for the tuition they paid.should be made confidential, without identity of the student and the studentssghould be briefed that the survey is only to assess whether its student population are finding value for their tuition dollar and the same will never be used for punishing the student for unfavourable response.
