You are a business owner with a successful local restaurant, Belle that has been in operation for 15 years. You employ over 20 people from servers, chefs, and office staff, with some of your people working for you since you first opened. Since COVID-19 happened, the government has mandating that only essential services can be provided, and for citizens to stay home. As a result, you are struggling to make ends meet. You would be devastated if your business didn’t survive this, and you feel a lot of responsibility to take care of your staff, as well as the health and well-being of the greater community. You know you need to come up with a plan for your business and a strategy for how you will communicate this to your team.
A. What would you do in this scenario? What would you say and do with the team?
B. What are some challenges to demonstrating these characteristics?
Being business owner its a very difficult situation to deal with. All employees need to be payed whether we open the restaurant or not. All are daily wage earners and not that well settled people. As its only allowed for essential services have to wait for the relaxation with restaurants also. Since mine is a local restaurant i cant shut down it. Instead i would lile to provide food to people who are dependent of our food daily. Few bachelore who are working, elder people who cannot cook use to depend on us for daily meals. I am planning to open my store with half the cooking team and by abiding to all health related guidelines can start providing food. They may not be able to come restaurant so i can provide them at their doors. All people near my locality will be provoded 3 meals as per their orders. Payment i can collect through online transfer. Delivery man can be given mask and gloves for protection. Also would implement hamd wash in every 30 seconds and masks to all staff who comes during covid19. 20 people can do work in rotation basis so i get an income and they can also earn. Also would like to open a food safe fridge for beggars who walk around for food. It can be helpful.
B. Talking about constraints, since covid19 is spreading world wide and its causing millions of human life i am scared to operate and use my staff to provide food to customers. But i cannot stop or shut down my local restaurant - - - -) Personal fear and discomfort.
Safety - - -). As part of social distancing has to maintain distance between cooking staff and other members. People may sometimes be reluctant to buy from outside as they are afraid of corona. They need to be convinced and marketed.
Few people may not be good at doing online payments, they will be given credit for 2 months. Infected areas cannot be serviced as there will be more restrictions.
