You work for a company that produces movies. Your company sells the movies in physical form (DVD) as well as in online formats. The movies are available through the major online retailers. You discover that several people are “purchasing” the online movies and then sharing them through a cloud-based storage system. Discuss the legal protections that you have and what remedies you may have if you successfully sue those individuals.

In this case the movies are protected under the copyright infringement as sharing movies through cloud based storage system would be violation of Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) and Protect IP Act (PIPA). To protect the content in entertainment industry, these act helps the producers to protect the original contect. As per the SOPA the sites that leads to violation and distribution of content may be legally sued while the PIPA act can help to reestrict such distribution. The remedies that a producer can use in this case are :

a. Make a contract with all the retailers regarding the licensing and access that will be conditional for the content so tat illegal copying of content can be avoided.

b. Company must strictly watch for the live streaming of movies, for which they can also use the antipiracy software so that person who is involved in such practices can be identified.

c. Most importantly, the copies of movies must have copyright and piracy act imparted on it so that customers are aware about the consequences if they get involved in such act.
