Acknowledge critical ethical and social issues in information systems.
Any information system has several ethical and social issues. Generally, an information system stores information and makes it accessible to various parties. Thefeore, information systems primarily facilitate sharing information and making it available as and when required. However, at times sensitive information may be stored in an information (such as patient data or credit card information) system which is prone to be misused by anti-social elements. Also, marketers can get access to private data of people to meet their marketing objectives. For example, the recent events related to misuse of Facebook data by Cambridge Analytica shows how information systems can be misused to exploit personal data of people. Moreover, administrators of an information system may be able to access personal data of people which the users may not like to share with others. Therefore, information systems have many ethical and social issues.
