Of the qualities and behavior that are important in leaders relevant to strategy implementation which do you feel is the most salient? I feel effective communication is the most important quality of an effective leader taking their business through new strategy implementation. Having effective communication means you are able to clearly and concisely direct and explain the phases and processes of the new strategy. Leaders who can effectively communicate typically get more buy-in from their employees over leaders who lack communication skills. When beginning a new process or implementing a new strategy clear and concise guidance is key to get everyone on the same sheet of music on day one.

ANSWER : Without any doubt, effective communication is one the top qualities that a strategic leader must have but in my opinion, listening is one of the most salient qualities of a good strategic leader. Communicating and listening are simply two sides of the same coin. Effective listening skills help in building morale of employees and they feel their voices are being heard.  You may have a great vision and you are also able to effectively communicate your vision to your team members but if you are not able to listen carefully and effectively respond to your team member's questions and concerns then they will feel detached from your vision and may not put their best foot forward and the main objective of strategic leadership which is strategic productivity is likely to suffer.  Strategic leaders must understand the views and feelings of his subordinates and make decisions after considering them.
