Applying concept: Consider the following hypothetical scenario...
Suppose faith-based institutions had been offering small group discussions about HIV to attempt to prevent HIV transmission in inner city areas for some time, but no one had ever performed an economic evaluation. Individuals do not have to pay money to attend these sessions. You are part of a team that is preparing to conduct an economic evaluation.
Question:
Suppose you had resources to follow individuals who had participated or not participated for 2 years. Please list five types of resources with monetary value that you could measure in the two years?
The prevention of HIV has been a major drive throughout the world in the last few decades. If we have the resources to follow up the individuals who had participated or not participated for the last couple of years, we can measure the below five resources (with monetary value) in order to derive at a conclusion of the effectiveness of the faith-based institutions.
(a): First, we will measure the percentage of men and women falling under the age group of 15-45, who have done their HIV tests and are aware about the tests being done and know the results of the tests. This is a very important financial measure, as a small test would tell the individuals about their HIV status.
(b): Secondly, we will measure, the programs that are currently being carried out for the already affected HIV patients and how they are being motivated to keep their sexual life under restraint and further follow certain other medical instructions.
(c): Thirdly, we will measure the number of schools that actually provide the sexual education and more so pertaining to the do’s and don’ts which could result in to HIV affection. This education is of prime importance and must be ensured at a very less expense in every school.
(d): Then, we will also measure the percentage of men and women between the age group of 15 to 45 who are aware of the preventive measures that they should employ in order to keep themselves safe from HIV. A small investment in this regard can be useful and life saving for many young people.
(e ): We will also measure the percentage of young boys and girls who have already had their sexual intercourse before the age of 15 and have they been made aware about the restrictions that they should follow. Moreover, we should also ensure that these young boys and girls get medical checkups done at frequent intervals.
