Targeting minorities is exploitive versus Targeting minorities is a sound business practice.
A target market is the market where a company wants to sell its products and services to , and it includes a targeted set of customers for whom it directs its marketing skills . Sound business practise should always include targetting a particular market segment based on consumer wants and needs , it must not discriminate consumers on the basis of race , caste , culture or any other weakness .
When companies target minorities , they actually try to take advantage of their lack of information . Products and services that cater to minorities that cause adverse health effects or adverse social actions because of their usage need to be marketed in a socially responsible way . Targetting minorities only is way of taking advantage of their habits and social lifestyle or income level or lack of proper awareness . From the view point of a true business profit making firm , it might be just a step to maximize profits but from the view point of society it is exploitive in nature . As for example manufacturing unsafe cheap liquor for minorities with low income .
