American popular music also known as "pop music" came into existence in the 19th century. It was meant to be used for Minstrel Shows.
Minstrel shows were introduced with the sheer intention of entertaining the crowd. They consisted of comic skits, dance, music, which were performed by white people with their face colored black (blackface). In the 20th century, American popular music picked up; there were variety of styles that were introduced. Pop music is appealing and considered to be unique for its vocal lines, and energetic rhythms. The Beatles was the first band that became a household name and popularized American music. They were known for trying out different styles like, Indian music, Psychedelia, rock and roll. When this trend picked up and the world began to rave about American music, other budding artists emulated the pre-existing stars and their style which was appreciated worldwide.
Elvis Presley in the 60s was the King of Rock and Roll. His music was catchy and he had a very unique style. Later followed other bands and artists like, Nat King Cole, Bryan Adams, Pink Floyd, Guns and Roses, The Rolling Stones, Eminem, Enrique, Madonna, Shakira, Beyonce and etcetera who still continue to make American music so popular to audiences all over the world.
American Popular Music is majorly known for its energetic rhythms, which gives the world an outlook that the people from America are very chill, cool and full of life.
